'The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty' premieres Dec. 13 on A&E
A&E has announced that The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty will premiere Sunday, December 13 with back-to-back one-hour episodes beginning at 9 p.m. ET/PT. According to the network’s press release, the reality series follows the lives of Michael Jackson’s brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Tito and Marlon “as they prepare for a Jackson Five reunion, while also coming to terms with Michael’s tragic loss.” Footage will include the brothers’ rehearsals for the 40th anniversary concert and the recording of vocals for a song from the Michael Jackson’s This Is It soundtrack.
Beginning December 20, the series will move to its regularly scheduled time slot of Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

4 Jackson brothers reunite for A&E miniseries
NEW YORK — As the old saying goes, "If you like this kind of thing, you'll like this."
Mirroring too many other celeb-reality shows that come pledging a personal glimpse at their subjects, "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty" is stagey, self-conscious and, most of all, self-serving on the part of its participants.
But if you're a fan of Michael Jackson (always offstage but seldom out of mind), or even the observable members of the Jackson 5 — Marlon, Tito, Jackie and Jermaine — you might enjoy this time spent with them.
The six-hour A&E series premieres at 9 p.m. EST, Sunday, Dec. 13, with back-to-back episodes. The high point of those first two hours comes when Jermaine Jackson cries.
Tearfully, he recalls the dark days of 1976, when the rest of the group leaped to CBS Records while only he stayed behind at Motown, being loyal, he says, "to where we started."
"Do you know what it is to be alone? Just to be alone?" says Jermaine, choking up. "I'm out in the streets and kids are saying, 'We don't want your autograph, 'cause you're the one that broke the group up.'"
"When you came back to the group, it was one of the best, favorable memories of my life," says Tito as the foursome shares hugs all around.
It's hard to believe this is really the first time Jermaine has ever expressed his hurt from that rift with his brothers, as he claims. And it's hard to overlook the fact that, during this scene of high emotion, all of them seem carefully arranged on their sectional sofa for maximum visual effect.
Even so, there's something real going on here. It's a nice break from all the canned, rote stuff.
The premise of the miniseries (at least when filming started last January) seems to center on the Jackson 5, including Michael, reuniting for their 40th anniversary.
The other four brothers start planning a tour and a new album — "the best album we ever made!" Jackie crows.
They exchange lots of stock dialogue like, "I think we owe it to the fans" and, "We're family. We'll be the Jackson 5 till the day we die."
They make self-pitying remarks about the way the media abuse them, for example, "Your fans will be there for you. You have that marriage with them from day one. It's the media that tries to come between that."
That darn marriage-wrecking media!
They also get on each other's nerves. In the studio last May, Jermaine records a vocal track, then heads off to lunch. Jackie decides it's unacceptable and erases it.
"You won't believe what happened in the studio today," Jermaine tells his wife back at home. "I did these vocals, I was very excited about them, and the next thing I know, they were erased."
The first hour (which includes a sentimental, staged-for-TV journey to their childhood home in Gary, Ind.) ends with the news of Michael's death in late June.
Even before his shocking death, it's hard to discern from the miniseries what Michael thought about his brothers' plans for the reunion. His involvement is apparently assumed. But he is only seen in archival footage and heard singing on the soundtrack.
And he's regularly mentioned.
"Your brother was the biggest artist in the world," the Jacksons' attorney, Virgil Roberts, tells them in the second episode, a month after Michael has died. "It's put a special spotlight on you. You're the living legacy."
As Roberts speaks, the Jacksons' album and tour seem to still be in the picture, at least for the sake of justifying this miniseries.
But Jermaine isn't in the image (and his commitment to the group is called into question) when he misses the official photo shoot. He later tells his brothers he had an eye infection.
Some reunion. And four more episodes to fill.

In their quest to reunite for a concert tour, Jermaine and his brothers break down into tears over the demise of their first musical group, the Jackson 5.
"I never wanted to hurt you all," Jermaine says through tears when recounting why he didn't sign the contract to join his fellow brothers -- sans Michael -- at a CBS label back in 1975, which essentially caused the group to break up.
"I never wanted to be separated," he continues. "And then Joe started treating me, like, 'Well, how you going to eat? How you going to do this?'"
Jermaine adds that if they went to CBS, producers would "make you like the Beatles," something he didn't want because they were "the Jackson 5!"
"It's loyalty -- it's being loyal to where we started," he says.
While Jackie and Tito cry, Marlon tells Jermaine they never realized his inner conflict.
"We never knew any of that stuff happened," Marlon says. "You have a right to make your own choices. We as brothers will always be brothers. I don't give a damn what kind of contract, what's this or what's that ... we will always be brothers and that will never change."
The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty will air its season premiere on Dec. 13.

Michael Jackson's death put a sudden end to long-rumored plans for a Jackson 5 reunion, but brother Jermaine on Friday kept fans guessing about whether there might be a "Jackson 4" concert next year.
"Those plans are in the works but you have to wait and see where it goes", Jermaine Jackson told reporters, referring to an upcoming reality TV show about the famous singing family.
"The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty," which begins airing on Dec 13 on the A&E network, follows original members Jermaine, Jackie, Tito and Marlon as they planned for a tentative 40th anniversary reunion of the Jackson 5 before -- and after -- the sudden death in June of their younger brother Michael.
The Jackson 5, with Michael as the key singer, were one of Motown's biggest acts in the early 1970s, scoring hit songs such as "ABC" and "I'll Be There."
Producers on Friday said fans would have to watch the six-episode show to find out whether the brothers decide to go ahead in some form, without Michael.
"That is a surprise ending...so you have to stay tuned for that. The guys live all of those answers out on camera," said executive producer Jodi Gomes.
Gomes and Jermaine Jackson also denied reports from earlier this year that his late brother's three young children would appear on the TV show, citing respect for Michael's efforts to keep them away from the media spotlight during his life.
"There was never any intention to put Michael's children on the show before or after his death," Gomes said.
The TV show began shooting the sometimes fractious four brothers in the spring of 2009, following them to dance rehearsals and recording studios and back to their humble beginnings in Gary, Indiana as they tried to put together plans for a Jackson 5 reunion.

Niby z jednej strony dobrze, bo mamy do czegoś dostęp. Ale... Zatracili zupełnie wyczucie i szacunek do siebie. Smutne, bo dewaluuje obraz grupy, która dla wielu dużo znaczy. Chyba że to posłuży za publiczną spowiedź, w jakikolwiek sposób wiarygodną.
Niby z jednej strony dobrze, bo mamy do czegoś dostęp. Ale... Zatracili zupełnie wyczucie i szacunek do siebie. Smutne, bo dewaluuje obraz grupy, która dla wielu dużo znaczy. Chyba że to posłuży za publiczną spowiedź, w jakikolwiek sposób wiarygodną.

wg mnie swoją wiarygodność przekreślają już samym pomysłem. Albo przynajmniej jego realizacją w tak krótkim czasie po wydarzeniach czerwcowych. Odnoszę wrażenie, że póki temat "śmierci Michaela jest jeszcze 'ciepły'" każdy z tej rodziny chce uszczknąć coś dla siebie.kaem pisze:w jakikolwiek sposób wiarygodną.
Próbuję ich zrozumieć. Jeśli naprawdę zbyt negatywnie fani postrzegają relację bracia - Michael to dobrze, że ten program powstaje. Jeśli jednak ich pobudki są bardziej materialne to jest to okropne. To nieco niesmaczne, ze ten program rusza teraz, w grudniu. To TEN miesiąc niebywałych słupków oglądalności, miesiąc w którym ludzi chwytają za serce jeszcze mocniej historie rodzinne. Świąteczny odcinek to będzie mega hit, mega zysk... Może można było zorganizować to po nowym roku? A może ten świąteczny czas pomoże ludziom lepiej zrozumieć tą rodzinę? Zobaczymy.

Albo ja jestem stereotypowy albo to rodziny w USA tak delikatnie przeżywają utratę członka... ja gdybym był 1 z braci Michaela,nie miałbym najmniejszej ochoty robić takiego serialu dokumentalnego, bo bym był zbyt przygnębiony utratą brata, ale widać oni mają inaczej. Dla mnie sama zapowiedź do serialu brzmi ciekawie jednak otłoczka tego co tam zobaczy6my troszkę dla mnie jest nie pewną:-]

Jedynie co mi przyszło na myśl to... nie uwierzycie... jajcarze. Naprawdę. Obejrzałam ten drugi trailer i od razu zaczęłam się śmiać. Szczególnie jak Tito mówi, że śpiewają jak The Suprimes a J mówi "zamknij się". Ta dwójka ma się ku sobie
Nie wiemy jak to tam u nich jest ale, proponuję by dać temu szansę. Może nie są tacy źli jak na mówicie? Miejmy świeże umysły.
To nie jest zwykła rodzina. Całe życie spędzili w świetle jupiterów, więc każda okazja jest dla nich dobra, by o sobie przypomnieć, pomimo tragicznych okoliczności, a może właśnie z ich powodu. Tak się tylko zastanawiam... szczerze: śpiewanie im nie szło wybitnie, "na grzbiecie" Michaela budowali sławę zespołu, udzielając się głównie w chórkach i w balecie i teraz w trasę wyruszają? z czym?
Zobaczymy, co pokażą dziś w tym show... choć szczerze, nawet nie bardzo mam ochotę ich oglądać ;>
