bliski przyjaciel Michaela - Dave Dave
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En5Q4syywcw

Justin Timberlake On Michael Jackson: '99.79 Percent Of His Songs Are Perfect'

By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Matt Elias (MTV.com)

When Michael Jackson joined Justin Timberlake and 'NSYNC onstage at the 2001 Video Music Awards, JT didn't get a chance to sing with one of his idols. The King of Pop just busted out a number of his signature dance moves as the crowd at New York's Metropolitan Opera House went nuts. A couple months later, though, Timberlake got the opportunity of a lifetime when he performed - and sung - with MJ at his 30th anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden.

Years later, and months after Jackson's passing, Timberlake maintains that Jackson's vocal dexterity might be the biggest legacy he's left behind.

"If there's anything that I think my generation of artists - including myself, obviously - emulate about Michael, it's that he felt what he was doing so much that his vocal presentation of the song, you can tell when he was cutting the record he was probably dancing in the booth," Timberlake told MTV News on the red carpet at his Las Vegas charity concert. "At least that's what it seems like to me. That type of energy, that kinetic energy into the music, I think that's what we all try to emulate. From hip-hop to pop to rock and roll, I think that there's inflection that he put into music as a vocalist that no one had ever really heard that way."

Though Timberlake professed to be a huge fan of Jackson's tunes as a kid, he also admitted that he didn't have a true understanding of Jackson's legacy until he left home to pursue a career as an artist. "Growing up in Tennessee, I never really understood the phenomenon that was Michael Jackson or the pandemonium that followed him around," JT said. "I just heard certain songs that I loved as a kid and I gravitated toward those songs. It just so happens that 99.79 percent of his songs are perfect. They're perfect songs. The other whatever percentage are works of art as well."

One work of art he's interested in checking out is Michael Jackson's This Is It, the upcoming documentary about the singer's final days. "It looks like a more intimate view than anything we've seen," he said. "I'm sure it will be good."

While he's looking forward to catching MJ on the big screen, Timberlake said he doesn't try to invoke his idol in the recording booth - though he's pleasantly surprised when he finds a point of similarity in their music. "You don't imitate it, but you know when you have something that he had," he explained. "You could tell he was just excited about the music he was doing. That's the feeling that you get sometimes and that's when you feel like the king - but other than that, not so much!"

Albanian makes record Michael Jackson mosaic
Tirana: A mosaic of the late Michael Jackson composed of 230,000 paintbrushes by Albanian artist Saimir Strati entered the Guinness World Records as the world's largest paintbrush mosaic on Friday.

Almost as big the side of the truck on which it stood, the mosaic of brown and black paintbrushes showed Michael Jackson singing with his head slightly thrown backwards and his arms outstretched.

"I have measured the mosaic and this is a new Guinness World Record," Guinness adjudicator Andrea Banfi told the crowd, who cheered loudly in Tirana's main Skanderbeg square.

"Saimir is an old member of the Guinness World Record family and we are glad to have him back," Banfi told Reuters.

Strati worked for 16 hours each day for a month listening to Jackson's music at high volume and showed his work around Albanian towns before taking it to the centre of Tirana.

"All the time I was being guided by his music and made a silent deal with him to help me find the secrets of his great singing," Strati told Reuters.

Jackson's mosaic was the fourth work to earn Strati a Guinness World Record's entry. He has also created the world's largest mosaic with nails, toothpicks and bottle corks.

Michael Bush, Michael Jackson's costume designer

"When [Michael Jackson] was recording in the studio, if it was Baby Picture Day and you had a meeting with him you had to show up with your baby picture. If you didn't have it, you were turned away. He used to laugh so much [at mine], he said by the size of my head I must of been thinking alot. If you ever wanted Michael's attention, show him a picture of a baby.

MJJ always said eveyone saw his baby pictures, he wanted to see yours. MJJ would stop doing anything to look at a baby picture, to see the joy in his eyes... Priceless.

I really think that's what got him through the trial, showing him baby pictures every morning before he got dressed for court..."

Omarion Says Michael Jackson Inspired His Growth On 'Ollusion'

When Omarion sings, "I done cut the braids, low cut, got my grown on," in a raspy croon on his new single "I Get It In," he's referencing a turning point in his career.

"I felt like my braids defined who I was, and there's so much more to me," says the 25-year-old singer, who -- in the wake of Ludacris and Mario -- shed his signature hairstyle in July. "I'm not a kid in the industry anymore; I have a sense of self."

"I Get It In" is No. 26 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and No. 18 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop. The track, which features a cameo by in-demand rapper Gucci Mane, provides a solid setup for the former B2K singer's third solo album. Due Jan. 12, "Ollusion" will be released on the artist's own Starworld Entertainment imprint through EMI Label Services.

"It's the first record I've put out since [2005's] 'Touch' that has a high-energy dance vibe," Omarion says. "I have a new look and my own label now, so it felt like the right way to kick things off."

Omarion, whose real name is Omari Grandberry, recently released a choreography-laden music video for "I Get It In." His second single will be a song he co-produced with four-person production team 253. Titled "Speed'n," the midtempo number recalls past hits "O" and "Ice Box." The singer adds, "It's got that classic Omarion feel."

Other standout tracks include "Hoodie," a boastful jam featuring Jay Rock, and "What Do You Say," a ballad Omarion co-wrote with his friend Chris Brown.

In early August, the future of "Ollusion" and Omarion's label home looked unclear. The singer's deal with Young Money fell through two weeks after label founder Lil Wayne introduced him at a concert, sparking rumors that he was dropped. This followed an earlier split from Timbaland, who was originally set to produce and release Omarion's new album under his Interscope-distributed Mosley Music Group.

"Timbaland had so much on his plate," Omarion recalls. "And when I saw I couldn't have the relationship I wanted to have with him, I knew it wasn't the home for me. With Young Money, it was getting close to the end of the year, and I wanted to build momentum for the first quarter. Wayne had other plans, though . . . he's the captain of his ship."

Those events could have easily derailed another artist's career. Yet Omarion pushed ahead, striking a new deal with EMI by late September.

"Everyone was speculating that I was out for the count," he says, "but I never sweat. Stepping out as an entrepreneur was the smartest thing I could do."

"Now we have Omarion the artist and Omari the boss," says Cheryl Trimmer, who previously worked with the singer's manager Chris Stokes and is now president of Starworld. "He wouldn't have been able to wear both hats at Young Money."

Omarion already has a stable of acts under Starworld: one female and one male solo singer, a singing group and a male rapper, whom he'll likely introduce while touring in support of "Ollusion."

"You'll start to see his artists roll out in the fourth quarter of next year," Trimmer says. "Right now the focus is getting him established where he needs to be."

Omarion says he's ready for the challenge, noting that he's been especially determined to take his career to the next level ever since his idol, Michael Jackson, died. "I was sitting at his funeral next to Chris [Brown]," he recalls, "and I just had this moment where I said to myself, 'I have to step up to the plate now and drive myself further than I've ever gone before.' "

JACKSON ATTENDED CINEMA SCREENING AS CRIPPLED OLD MAN

MICHAEL JACKSON went to great lengths to protect his identity during regular trips to the cinema - he once dressed as an old man and rolled up to a theatre in a wheelchair for a date with pal KENNY ORTEGA.
The music mogul/director behind Jackson's This Is It show and concert rehearsal film thought the King of Pop had stood him up - until a crippled old man approached him.
He recalls, "He loved going places but he couldn't go unless he was incognito. I remember waiting for him one time outside a movie theatre to go see Beowulf at Universal Studios in Hollywood, and he said, 'I'll meet you in front of the theatre.'
"I don't know what I was thinking. I was looking for Michael Jackson to show up to meet me. I'd been with him many times before when he dressed up - he went to the theatre in New York as the Mata Hari's daughter once. You wouldn't believe some of the outfits that we saw him in.
"So I'm standing around and looking around. There were young tourists running up to me to get my autograph because they recognised me from High School Musical, and this old, old man in a wheelchair is getting closer and closer to me until I just went, 'You son of a gun!' It was Michael just laughing under his plastic face.
"I went over and wheeled this old man into the movie theatre - it was the only way he could get in and more importantly get out. If we could sneak him in, if people knew that he was somewhere it was almost impossible to get him out."

Eminem Talks “Relapse 2″ and Admits He Relates to Michael Jackson in New Interview
With Relapse: Refill due out later this month, Eminem has opened up to Complex about a variety of topics, including the addiction that threatened his life, Michael Jackson, Lil Wayne and internet porn. The big news, however, is that Em’s planned Relapse 2 is still in the works despite the release of Refill, and that the reason the sequel to Eminem’s comeback LP was delayed was because the music just kept getting better as Em moved further away from his addiction.

“When I finished Relapse, I had a whole album of material that didn’t make it that I wasn’t ready to throw away, so that was going to be Relapse 2. But then I got with Dre in Hawaii and started recording more, and now the new material has knocked out all the old songs,” Eminem tells Complex. “Making Relapse, I was still working the drugs out of my system, so there was a lot of…just jokey shit. It was a lot of punchline-y, funny, shock value — kind of going back to The Slim Shady LP. And that was cool, but I’ve kind of flipped the page. Now I’m going for songs instead of one-liners.”

Check out photos of Eminem onstage at the Voodoo Festival.

Eminem also found similarities between the depths of his own addiction and the death of Michael Jackson. Eminem’s reliance on prescription medicine is well-documented throughout Relapse — he blames his Vicodin addiction for his massive weight gain during the hiatus — and says being a celebrity with the amount of fame Jackson had could be fatal. “I definitely can relate, and it’s a shame if he didn’t have anybody there to just say, ‘Michael, you’re an addict, you need help,’” says Em, who famously poked fun of Jackson in his 2004 video for “Just Lose It.” “It’s one of the pitfalls of fame.”

Getting clean also led Eminem to change his appearance: After a decade of platinum blond, he returned to his brown haired roots. “Once I got sober I was like, ‘What the fuck am I doing? I’m like 35 years old, am I going to keep dying my hair fucking blond?’ Also it was just about letting go,” Em admits to Complex. “The hair reminded me of my addiction, and I hated myself when I was in my addiction. I hated myself worse than anyone could ever hate me.”could just say, ‘Yo, I need this and this and this,’ and they’re going to give me whatever I want.”

As for Lil Wayne, who rapped alongside Slim Shady on “Forever” and is rumored to have recruited Em for a track on the upcoming Rebirth, Eminem says that it took awhile for him to appreciate Weezy’s talent. “There was the hype about him, but I didn’t see what all the hype was about,” Em said. “I felt like he was good, certainly above average from his singles, but it was like, ‘Is he that dope? Then I listened to the whole album and was like, ‘Wow! My man is that dope — Lil Wayne is fucking dope!’ You’ve got to listen to a Lil Wayne song four, five, or six times to actually catch everything he’s saying.”

Magic Johnson talks going on tour with 'genius' Michael Jackson and brothers on Jimmy Kimmel

Earvin Magic Johnson appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and discussed his friendship that he shared with not only Michael Jackson, but the Jackson family, as well. Johnson said that he has some of the most memorable times with the Jacksons.

Jimmy Kimmel mentions that he watched him speak at Michael Jackson's memorial, and said he didn't know that the two were friends. Johnson then reveals: "I had some of the most unbelievable fun with Michael and the Jackson brothers. I used to hang out at the house. I went on tour with the Jacksons - a couple of times. It was really cool, Jimmy, because they would send out limos - and there would be thousands and thousands of girls in front of the hotel, so they would send out the limos and everyone would think the Jackson's were inside. Then we would come to the hotel about an hour later in these white vans, and everyone would be gone, chasing the limos down the street. " Johnson continues, "When we would get back from the concerts, we would have pillow fights and water balloon fights - because they would block off the whole floor for the Jacksons, and we would have some of our most unbelievable fun." Kimmel then asks how old Johnson was when all of this was happening. Johnson reveals: "It was during the Victory tour. You have to remember that Michael and I are 50. Do you remember that I was in the Remember the Time video? And I'll tell you - people don't know this, but Michael Jackson loved fireworks. We used to throw firecrackers and cherry bombs at his house. We would do this all day for at least 4 or 5 hours straight." He adds, "Like I said, I had so much fun with him. Everyone thinks he was this crazy guy, but Michael was smart, and he was a lot of fun."

Johnson went on to say that Michael, "was a genius at that music." He told Kimmel, "I would go to the rehearsals or soundchecks and he know where everybody was supposed to be, when they were supposed to come in.

Liza Minelli's ex-husband David Gest blames Michael Jackson for his stupid plastic surgery

The 56-year-old star has undergone several cosmetic operations on his face, including two facelifts and a nose job. He insists his close friend Jackson, who died in June, was the driving force behind the surgeries.

Jackson is believed to have had extensive plastic surgery, with many doctors claiming he had several nose operations, chin and eye surgeries. Jackson would never detail the work he had done, once claiming he had only gone under the knife twice.

“I had surgery when I was very young and it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done,” David told Britain’s The Sun newspaper.

“Michael Jackson kept saying, 'You should have plastic surgery.’ I got my nose done and he said, 'Do more, do more.’ It was stupid.

"If I had my way I'd go back to my original big nose with a bit of a hook in it. It looked great.”

Gest has previously spoken of his decision to change his appearance. He has claimed he never felt he looked good enough to be a music producer, or to mix in the Hollywood circles he was part of.

His decision to alter his face brought him closer to Michael, who would travel to David’s home to look after him after every surgery.

Gest said: “I went for it in grand style - even though I have a huge ego I have always felt I was never good-looking - so I got a nose job, cheek bone implants, a second nose job, even bigger cheek implants, and the removal of those cheek implants when I ended up looking like a chipmunk!

Kehinde Wiley's Michael Jackson Commission Sells at Art Basel
Late pop icon Michael Jackson appeared in a lot of artworks over the course of his lifetime, from a blue-chip Warhol to countless amateur homages, but one that he'd actually commissioned himself he never got to see in final form.

In 2008 the singer, who died on June 25, 2009, commissioned from rising artist Kehinde Wiley, who is known for his flashy portraits of African-American men and women, a portrait of himself. The work, titled Equestrian Portrait of King Philip II, was included in New York gallery Deitch Projects' booth at Art Basel Miami Beach last week, where it sold to an unnamed collector for $175,000, according to Agence France-Presse.

"I was receiving messages saying Michael Jackson wants to reach you," said Wiley of being commissioned for the work. "I ignored them because quite honestly I thought it was a prank."

Wiley suggests that Jackson was rather specific in his instructions, saying, "Unfortunately, I didn't have as much input as I would have hoped for, but I think it's something he would have been proud of." Jackson never saw the finished work, which measures more than 11 by 10 feet and depicts the singer looking knightly and heroic on a horse, with a romantic background complete with cherubs.

He added, "I felt a responsibility to him to get it done [after he died]."

Two additional Wiley paintings, both of President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, did not sell at Basel.

R. Kelly speaks about Michael Jackson

One of the highlights of the concert is Kelly's tribute to the late Michael Jackson.

"Michael Jackson being gone is like our breath, our musical breath, being taken away," Kelly says in his videotaped message. "But I'm not gonna let him die."

Then home-movie footage of Jackson and director Brett Ratner dancing in a vehicle to the sounds of Kells' "Ignition" appears on the screen. R. told us that the King of Pop wanted a song like it of his very own.

"Michael told me one day, he said, 'I wanna know if you can write a song like "Ignition" for me — I love that song,' " Kelly explained. "I was like, 'Mike, man, "Ignition" is not a "Thriller," but much like "Thriller," those type of songs will probably never happen [again]. It'll never happen again. I'm sorry.' "

But Kelly was extremely humbled when he saw Jackson dancing to "Ignition" and felt compelled to put the footage in his show.

"I cried the first time I saw him on YouTube, and I couldn't believe he was in the backseat of the car. He was jamming [to my song]," he said. "You can tell he was into it. He was feeling it. It was like, 'Wow, he's doing my music. He's singing to my music.' It was unbelievable. I knew I made it when I saw that. You can sing songs forever. I've written a lot of songs, and they went around the world. I've won all types of awards, but let me tell y'all something — nothing, nothing told me, I didn't know I made it until I saw Michael Jackson in the back of that car performing and dancing to my song 'Ignition.' That's when it became official. I've been in the game 20 years, but that's when it became official to me that Kells is here, baby, for real."

The video homage to Jackson segues into a montage of Michael's performances and videos. Kelly sings, "Don't say goodbye to me/ There is no need to/ Don't say goodbye to me, because I'm still with you/ Don't say goodbye to me, don't shed a tear/ Because I'm still here/ Go light a candle and say a prayer/ Scream out victory, 'cause love is still there."

"I do dedicate a segment of the show to Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson is one of the biggest reasons R. Kelly is in the game right now. It's amazing," he explained.

Kelly sped up his wardrobe change so that he could watch the video every night from backstage.

"It made me feel like he was still alive," Kelly smiled. "It made me feel like I still have the chance to go to the level that Michael took it to. It brings me back to what real music is and how it touches and pierces the soul. That's what my mission is."
This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

An Ambassador of Peace, Love and Goodwill
"When you don’t have a childhood, like myself and other child stars, you try to compensate for the loss later on and you try to catch up. But what I like to do is help other children who are less fortunate than I am. You know, kids who are terminally ill, kids who have diseases, poor children." – Michael Jackson

Katherine Jackson once told a story about how she and Michael used to watch the commercials of the starving children in Africa, the ones with flies around their mouths, and how they would both sit there with tears streaming down their faces.

People who are profoundly affected by those types of commercials have a strong sense of empathy. Empathy is the ability to sense what someone else is feeling. Not everyone has this ability, but those who do can feel the feelings of other people as if they were their own. Some people have so much empathy, they are so in tune with other's feelings, that it pains them to see someone else suffering. Michael Jackson was one of those people.

After watching one of those commercials, he said to his mother: "One day I’m going to do something about that. I know I can’t heal the world, but I can help." He would later go on to keep his word by helping alleviate famine in Africa through the recording of the song "We Are the World," which was co-written with Lionel Richie. That recording, which brought dozens of artists together to help, resulted in over $60 million dollars being funneled to the most affected areas of that continent.

It became his mission to help suffering children around the world. He taught us the meaning of selfless love and compassion when he publically embraced Ryan White, an Indiana teenager who contracted AIDS through a tainted hemophilia treatment in 1984. He showed courage by befriending him at a time when others were so fearful of the disease. He gave him love, understanding, and acceptance; something all children need, but especially those who are suffering from debilitating diseases.

Ryan’s mother, Jeanne White-Ginder, once said in an interview: "He didn't care what race you were, what color you were, what was your handicap, what was your disease, Michael just loved all children."

You may not know that he gave Ryan a car a year before he died. It was a red Mustang, Ryan’s favorite. The car was on display at Ryan’s funeral, which was attended by Michael. Michael walked over to the car, got in and started it, then smiled from ear to ear. As the engine began humming, the song "Man in the Mirror" began playing. His heart was touched deeply when he realized that he was the last person Ryan had listened to before he died. That was the kind of impact Michael had on people. He knew the power of love.

Now there is Joshua, a 12-year-old boy in Germany who is fighting for his life. Joshua is a huge fan of Michael Jackson and dot member of the Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait. On the same day that he had tickets to go see "This Is It," he received the devastating diagnosis of Leukemia.

This is a young boy who I’m certain Michael would have reached out to with love, care and compassion. Sadly, Joshua won’t get to experience the power of his love…directly. However, the love that emanated from Michael Jackson lives on in people all over the world and Joshua is receiving the benefit of that love.

The impact that Michael left on people around the globe is incredible. Some feel so much love for him that they started non-profit organizations just to continue his mission of helping children. Others have begun to feel a love so deeply that it makes them sob at times. It’s something that others have a hard time understanding because they have never been touched by it. These are the type of people who have come together to help Joshua.

Michael’s death has created a bond between all of his fans and formed a unity that I have never experienced before. When I heard about Joshua’s story, I reached out to a non-profit organization in Australia called AlittleSomthin4Michael. Their mission is to bring people together to contribute in making a difference in someone's life, especially children. They organize efforts to feed the homeless, spread toys and gifts to less fortunate children, and help families in need. They were inspired by Joshua’s story and have committed to helping in some way. Many other fans such as MJJ News in France have helped me reach out to thousands of fans in their own network in an effort to increase the love and prayers going to Joshua.

It is awe inspiring that people in the United States reached out to people in Australia and France who then reached out to others all over the world to help a young MJ fan in Germany. That is the power of Michael Jackson’s love and it lives on through his fans.

He would be proud to know that his love has affected people in this way. How many can say that they have brought together people around the world for the greater good?

Here is a link to Joshua’s story. Please send him love and light. He needs our prayers now.

This Is It choreographer says MJ wanted Gaga as one of his guests at London concerts.

It could have been one of the most bizarre musical hookups in pop history. According to a new interview with Michael Jackson's choreographer, Travis Payne, the late King of Pop was a big fan of Lady Gaga and had tried to set up a meeting to discuss a possible joint project.

The revelation comes from a video posted on December 30 on YouTube by Amsterdam-based producer/actor Raffles van Exel, who asks Payne which artists MJ was interested in collaborating with before his death last June.

"I gave him a short wish list [of possible collaborators] ... and he was like, 'Sure, they can all come, as long as their schedules permit and it's not too much of a problem for them,' " Payne said of Jackson's humble response to a suggestion that he reach out to other artists to work with him on his This Is It series of shows in London. "Of course, I suggested Janet, of course Whitney Houston. ... Diana Ross and Mariah Carey we talked about. We talked about Missy Elliott. We talked about Usher, of course. We talked about Justin [Timberlake], Celine Dion ... Sting, Seal, Bono, Tina Turner. We talked about all these people that I thought were cool but that he liked."

Then, Payne said he asked Jackson if there was anyone else he wanted to reach out to. "He goes, 'Lady Gaga.' I go, 'Really?' He goes, 'Yeah.' He's the one who really got me to get into her. He literally told me, 'You gotta get into her. She's good.' So, I started listening to her music more and going on YouTube and looking at her performances, and I was like, 'He's right.' "

Payne did not specify in the video when these conversations took place. He said that last November, he got a call from Lady Gaga and told her the story about the conversation with Jackson. "She got moved by it," he recalled. A spokesperson for Gaga could not be reached for comment about Payne's claims.

A Q&A with Todd Gray, Author of Michael Jackson: Before He Was King

Q:How did you first meet Michael Jackson?
A:I first met Michael in 1974, when I was sent on an assignment to photograph Stevie Wonder at the Record Plant studio in Hollywood. Stevie was recording the single “You Haven't Done Nothin',” which featured backing vocals by the Jackson 5, so Michael and his brothers were there. I had been photographing rock groups since 1971, while I was still in high school, and kept on to help pay for college and later, art school. When I got to the studio that evening I walked into the engineering booth and saw a young man with a huge Afro. He was wearing ill-fitting slacks and hovering around the mixing board, watching Stevie's hands intensely as Stevie was adjusting the sound of the playback. I realized he was Michael Jackson. I had no idea that the pictures I took of him then would be the beginning of a decade-long journey.
A few years later, in 1979, I was hired to shoot the Jacksons for their back-to-back appearances on American Bandstand and Soul Train. I’d photographed the Jacksons a few times since 1974 for various magazines, but never really spoken to them (publicity photographers are kind of low on the totem pole). This assignment would change that. On the Bandstand shoot, all the brothers were backstage along with record company people, family, friends. Each new person who entered greeted Jackie, Marlon, Randy, and Tito, but it was clear that Michael was the one who had the juice in the room, and everybody was jockeying for position to get his attention, catch his eye. I thought it best to stay away from all the action swirling around Michael, so I just drifted over to another part of the room. It didn’t take long for Marlon to find me and start peppering me with questions, probably because I was the newest face in the crowd and we were close in age, but maybe also because I was one of very few black photographers on the rock scene. Soon Tito and Jackie wandered over, and in no time I felt relaxed and at ease, as if hanging out with my own friends.
The next day we were on the set of Soul Train in Hollywood. The same cast of characters was there--marketing, promotion, and publicity people from Epic Records--and they were all buzzing around Michael. When I came into the dressing room Tito and Marlon greeted me warmly. Jackie and Randy joined us, and I quickly became the focus of their teasing and inside jokes. We laughed a lot, talked about sports, cars, and movies--guy stuff. I didn't make any effort to get Michael's attention or even look his way. I was having too good a time joking with his brothers, and all of the adults around Michael seemed boring in comparison.
Two weeks later I was shooting Michael backstage at L.A.'s Forum, where he was receiving his platinum records for Off the Wall. Once again there was a huge entourage of industry people, family, and friends around. When I saw Michael he walked over to me and asked in a quiet whisper, "How come you never speak to me? You joke with my brothers, but not with me. Don't you like me?" I didn’t know what to say. He took me completely off guard with his voice and his question. "No, you’re fine," I said, "You always look so busy, and I've had nothing to say. Michael, I like you." "Okay," he said, and walked away.
The following January I got a call that Michael had personally asked me to come and photograph him while he was taping a TV special with Danny Kaye at Disneyland. Whenever the director would release him from the set to prepare the next shot Michael would grab my arm and say "Come on, let’s hit some rides," and we'd run off ushered by Disney security through secret passageways, making certain we never waited in line. Michael, who was t21 at the time, loved Disneyland, and while sitting next to him on the rides I joined right in with his screams and laughter. We really had fun.
Not long after this job, I got another call from his manager saying that Michael had told him to hire only me when he needed a photographer. His manager asked, "What’s up with you and Michael?" "We just get along, I guess," I said. I asked the manager why Michael chose me and he said Michael told him, "I like Todd because he doesn’t talk much."
Q:What are a few of your observations about Michael's life that people outside of his world have never seen?
A:Well, he was very observant, and had amazing focus. And when he was performing it might look effortless for him when he was doing it, but that only happened because he had a dedication and perfectionism focused on his performance, whether that was on stage or in the mixing booth with the engineers. He’d be nervous and tense before going onstage, but that would all get channeled into his performance. Sometimes he didn’t sleep well in hotels on the road, and he had a special recording machine that switched on in the middle of the night and played stories. It had three clocks--you can see it on the nightstand in the second photo in the book.
Q:Did Michael’s work ethic influence you in your work?
A:MJ would not stand for mediocrity. I only realized that I had adopted his work ethic a few years after I stopped working for him. Whenever I was tired and my heart was not into my work, I'd find myself thinking about how MJ pushed himself to maintain a high level of quality, and this made me not settle for "good enough" in my photo work. I always strove to achieve the best I was capable of producing, regardless of the circumstance or size of the job. I passed this onto my students over the years as motivation to achieve greater heights than they thought themselves capable. "Shoot for the stars, and if you don't make it, at least you'll land on the moon."
Q:What was it like travelling with Michael and the Jacksons?
A:Traveling with MJ and the J5 was akin to being in a bubble. Security blanketed us while on the road. Michael was so engrossed in the development of his career that he had a disproportionate world view. I (and others) had to watch our language: no swear words, sexual references, dirty jokes. He maintained an ultra moral, verbal-antiseptic space around himself, and perhaps saw the world through the atmosphere of this space. He chose to focus on pleasant things. As a result he may not have been able to make clear distinctions between the space that constituted his reality and the one we refer to as the "world."
Q:You started out shooting the Jacksons, and then became Michael's chosen photographer. What was his relationship like with his brothers?
A:Marlon was great fun. Sometimes too much fun. He was a joker and prankster. Jackie was cool, more on the quiet side. They made me feel at ease. No subject was out of bounds with them. I could be unguarded, knowing that I wouldn’t offend them if a swear word or bawdy joke slipped out. I could share a beer with Jackie. Oops... I thought you wanted to know my relationship with them! Michael and his brothers got on very well. They shared a level of intimacy that anyone outside of the family was not privy to, except for lifelong body guard Bill Bray. Michael seemed to reach out to Randy and Marlon the most, though. Katherine was treated in the highest regard. Joe was a quiet, forceful presence. He was hanging out with LaToya when she’d join us on the road, and later at home.
Q:Which photograph in the book is your favorite? Which do you feel is the most honest representation of the Michael you knew?
A:My personal favorite is the first white T-shirt shot in the book (page 27). That's my favorite session because MJ and I talked about it quite a bit beforehand and we were undisturbed. We wanted to express a level of his depth in the portraits. It took a month for me to get an hour with Mike alone. My other fave is the shot of his shoes when he hits that pose on the tips of his toes (pp. 40-41). The most honest representation is the shot of Michael and the band screaming their heads off and getting amped up before taking the stage (pp. 58-59) or laughing in his movie theater at home (pp. 126-127). All the laughing shots. Michael was quick to laugh, and took great pleasure in it.
Q:Do you think Michael took more satisfaction in his singing or his dancing?
A:I would guess he took most satisfaction in his singing. He took the utmost care of his voice. Turning off the air conditioning while it was 95 degrees outside, drinking lemon honey brews, singing scales. He treated his voice very seriously. Given the amount of care, I'd have to say singing.
Q:What did you learn as a photographer in the years you photographed Michael?
A:I learned the importance of observing and understanding your subject. The importance of creating a narrative: telling a story in a picture or asking a question to create viewer interest and engagement. I was trained as a conceptual artist, not a photojournalist, yet most of the work I did with the Jackson 5 and Michael was documentary photography. At first I was quite ambivalent about documentary photography, believing that one was simply working like a Xerox machine, and not especially creatively. But I developed a respect for documentary--the reality in front of us is often more fantastic than what we can imagine, if one has the patience and sensitivity to observe it. Still, my next step would be to go on and make art and create my own meaning of the world, rather than seek out more opportunities to convey someone else's.
Q:What is your favorite MJ song amd why?
A:Wanna Be Starting Something" and "Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough." Although I heard these songs countless times on the tour, I never tired of them, and I was full of joy whenever Michael would sing them. Maybe also because my best shot, the one with his shoes en point, was made during the tuxedo segment of the show when he sung those songs.
Q:You say in the book that Michael seemed like a child at heart. How did that part of his personality impact his adult life? Was it a struggle to balance the childlike view with his adult responsibilities?
A:Mike was good at bracketing. He'd slip into serious adult mood in a flash when business was being discussed. He was a wise man-child. When finished discussing business issues he could easily and quickly slip back into play mode. On the positive side, his childlike persona gave him fluid access to the creative part of his mind. He could play with musical ideas easily and maintain a sense of curiosity and wonder, making his own rules. I think he found a way of being that was satisfying and immensely productive.
Q:How did Michael interact with you behind the camera? Did posing come naturally for him, or did you need to draw him out?
A:Photographing a subject is a dance. It takes a while to click into rhythm. Michael never stumbled in our photo dance. By the time Thriller was released he was more in command of the camera than a few years earlier. More confident. In Atlanta (for the white T-shirt shoot), he took more direction than in his home in Encino for the photos later in the book. Our relationship developed to the point that it wasn’t necessary to draw him out. There was trust. We were both spontaneous when we shot.
Q:How has Michael's death affected you? Were you surprised by your feelings?
A:I didn't grieve until several days after he passed. I spoke to my son the day Michael died and he was deeply emotional over his passing. When I did grieve, I surprised myself. Alone in a room, sobbing, I started talking to Mike, finishing the conversation we started 25 years ago, and making a promise to fulfill a wish. I don’t normally act this way.

Ale ten wywiad jest bardzo ciekawy:

"The last dinner with Michael Jackson

Famous New York stylist who was born in Takov (?), the woman who enchanted Steven Spielberg, Nicole Kidman and Hilary Clinton, for two and a half years she was inseparable with the tragic King of Pop, who said a month before he left this world’s stage that he will forever be with her.

Written by: Zaneta Apostolovski

Michael Jackson was never selfish, he shared his love with the whole world, but that he’s the King of Pop – no one truly admitted that till he died. Michael wasn’t a *****, even though so many ugly things and lies were written about him. People simply didn’t understand him just like they didn’t understand Beethoven and Mozart but time has proven that they were musical geniuses as well. Jackson was an amazing artist. He lived in his own world with his music. I’m happy/lucky because I got to be his friend and that he chose me out of all people to be his stylist – says Ruska Bergman, the personal stylist of the late pop icon.

She’s only worked for a few years in New York but she’s already worked with Hilary Clinton, Bjork, Cindy Crawford , Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow and many other stars. She’s convinced that Michael Jackson was the most noble and sophisticated person that she worked with.

“I work for the Italian ‘L’Uomo Vogue’, I styled lots of directors, athletes, actors and when we had to pick out a music icon for our photoshoot, I suggested Michael Jackson, so I sent him a letter. I was at the theatre when after three weeks I got a phonecall from his lawyer who said he was calling on behalf of Michael Jackson.” – I was completely caught off guard. I got scared that I did something wrong in the way I contacted him. so I started apologizing. When the lawyer told me that Michael agreed to do the photoshoot, I asked him to repeat that sentence again before I pass out I called the editor of the magazine right away and told her that Michael Jackson agreed to do the photoshoot.”

According to Ruska, the preparations for this photoshoot were the most intense preparations on the planet.

“I got thousands of girls assisting us but by the end of it we decided on six. Completely impressed with what he saw, Michael simply shouted, “Girls, you are divine!” – but in order for Ruska to hear that sentence she worked very hard for five months.

Even though he was a megastar, Michael never acted like one on the set. He was very professional, he knew that he was working with the best stylists, make-up artists and photographers and he never saw their work as something beneath him.

There were hundreds of people on set. We played his Thriller album, he immediately stood in front of the camera and started dancing and a few moments later everyone was in tears. He had so much energy that I then, and many times later, thought that he must be from a different planet

Michael Jackson thought the same about Ruska though. He was amazed how much love she put into her work . Because of similar sensibilities, they continued to work together and their professional association quickly turned into friendship. He loved her character and honesty. He appreciated the fact that she was always honest about what she could and couldn’t do as far as her work goes.

The change in Jackson’s style over the last couple of years was very noticeable and noticed by the world media (I agree, he looked ******g beautiful lately, shazaaaam!)…on the internet blogs, everyone was asking who was behind the new look of this 20th century pop icon. His secret weapon was of course RUSKA BERGMAN!

“He trusted my taste a lot and he used to always tell me to never stop because I’m the most interesting person he’s ever met! When we became friends, he told me when I first showed up on his door in Vegas he could smell the Mediterranean sea on me”

Ruska and Michael were working intensely with one another over the last two years. They saw eachother often and stayed in touch regularly.

“My phone rang on New Years. I picked up the phone and heard someone singing opera. I was completely baffled. I asked who it was and Michael responded, “Who do you think it is?” – He was very shy and I can’t even describe how gentle he was. But his talent, voice, music and charisma can’t be surpassed.”

Since the first time they met, Ruska was convinced he was a genius. After that meeting in Vegas, her whole world changed. She walked down the street and suddenly compared to Michael, all the people seemed so ordinary.

“The more I watched him the more I loved him. He was simply magic. He was the most noble person in the world. No man on Earth can compare to his inner and outer beauty. I met so many stars, talked to them, worked with them, but no one was even close to Michael’s charisma. He was simply always ahead of everyone else and I can’t believe that my dear friend died How can I believe it when we actively worked so much together lately? I was getting the styling ideas ready for the tour, which unfortunately he will never get to do now – and it would’ve been a true spectacle.

According to Forbes magazine, Jackson would’ve earned 2.5 billion dollars from that tour. But he wasn’t too concerned about that. He had over 30 people who took care of everything and he had eleven lawyers, he lived in complete isolation but he was able to see who his true friends are. The moment Ruska came to LA, Michael would call her and sometimes he himself would pick her up at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

“The window of the limo would go down and Michael – guarded by six bodyguards in there – would wave at me and call me over. We loved and respected eachother. He loved everything that I wore, and he always wanted to wear it. He always asked me where I was hiding so long. A man like that will never come by again, but I’m convinced that his music will live for hundreds of years. Everyone copies him, but only when Michael himself showed up would people actually faint.”

The woman who works in the biggest fashion house and gives advice to Tom Ford, Givenchy and many others, she fascinated the King of Pop when it came to how humble she was and her general view when it came to money.

"When we had dinner just a month ago, Michael asked me, “Do you know why I love working with you? You never asked me for money. And we never talked about some agreements. You trusted me as I trusted you. I changed six managers in two years. You’re the only person who stuck with me. Everyone else came and went, and you, my dear, will be with me forever.”

The last time she saw him was two weeks before his death. She was at his house five days in a row.

“He was truly beautiful. He didn’t seem depressed or sad at all. He even danced a bit. Didn’t seem to have a care in the world. As always, he was the gentlest person on the planet. It seemed almost as if he was ‘ours’ (“Ours” is a Yugoslavian expression when talking about people who are actually from ex-Yugoslavia. Like “that girl looks like she’s ‘ours’” ). I never felt that about anyone aside from ~Steven Spielberg. But Michael was so unusual, his warmth and love completely got me. Everything was just fine. I can’t believe that he’s gone all of a sudden.”

She heard the news about his death while she was in the studio. The moment she heard it she thought she would fall off the chair. The only thing she could possibly say was that it was simply impossible, it can’t be. She couldn’t stop crying for days. All the material and the photographs and data that she has, she’s keeping for the movie, This is It, that’s coming out.

“I know I was very privileged because I had the chance to be so close to him, to see him as a real person. We perfectly understood eachother. I feel sad that the media was so unfair and cruel to him. He didn’t have cancer, his nose wasn’t falling off, all those things are just fabrications, stupidities and lies. The pop icon is among angels right now, but his music will live forever.” "

Michael Jackson Bodyguards: 'We Were Asked to Leave Hotels'

Few people were invited into the carefully guarded world of the King of Pop, but the bodyguards hired to protect Michael Jackson and his children are speaking out on the financial and emotional troubles that plagued the late entertainer.

"We were asked to leave hotels because the credit card on file was denied," bodyguard Bill Whitfield told "Good Morning America" in an exclusive interview to air Tuesday.

"The bill wasn't paid," bodyguard Mike Garcia added.

"We smile about it," Whitfield said, "but it's really more painful and hurtful."
Jackson, who died June 25 after taking a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs and propofol, a powerful anesthetic typically used in the operating room, could also fly into rages, belying the soft-spoken demeanor he showed in public.

"He got so frustrated he threw my cell phone out the window, through the window and broke the glass," Whitfield said. "And he looked at me and said, 'Bill, you're going to need a new phone."

The bodyguards were also charged with protecting Jackson and his children from seeing images of the pop icon that were splashed across the front of magazines.

"I'll be ahead of him, because I know he's coming this way, and I'm looking at magazine racks that may have something about him on them and I'll turn it around," Whitfield said. "Sometimes he's seen them, and you would actually see him take it and turn them around so the kids didn't see them."

Jackson was weeks away from staging a comeback tour in London before he died. He had been struggling for years with his finances and his public image. In his later years, he became less known for his music and talent than for his flamboyant spending habits and his reclusive behavior.

Jackson Children With Grandmother

Jackson's personal physician, Conrad Murray, has been charged with manslaughter in the pop star's death for administering the lethal dose of propofol. His three children, Prince, Paris and Blanket, have been living with Jackson's 80-year-old mother since their father's death.

Rodney Jerkins dla People:

"I remember Michael Jackson used to tell me he was crucified for doing 'Thriller', but he had to do what he felt was needed at that time. I'm just happy to be part of history." Rodney recalled to People.
"I've always wanted to leave my stamp on music, and to be able to say that I worked with Michael Jackson and now I'm working with Lady Gaga, who'll probably go down in history as one of the best female entertainers of all time ."

Mógłby to ewentualnie zrobić w jakimś szczytnym celu.
