We can exclusively reveal that Michael Jackson has agreed to attend the NRJ Music Awards next saturday (jan 26).
[French TV channel] TF1, [radio station] NRJ and Sony had been in talks with the singer for weeks.
But Jackson will not perform at the show, he will only receive a special honorary NRJ Award. He was meant to perform a duet with Akon, but Jackson eventually declined the offer.
His attendance at the show is part of the promotion of a rerelease of Thriller, 25 years later.

Frederick Pau, director of programs and head of the mark NRJ, confirmed the news in the newspaper Aujourd'hui en France.

This has had little yet for Jackson - who will be 50 years old on August 29 and is celebrating this year the 25th anniversary of the release of "Thriller" - appearing in person in the large auditorium of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. Last week's programme seemed finished, with the handing over by Celine Dion for a special prize to his namel and its intent, followed by a family trip to Eurodisney. That's where the case fell apart. Travelling with his 3 children, the artist - who arrived in Las Vegas - held stay a little short and has cancelled. "It was finalized," Frederick Pau regrets, adding that Michael Jackson has recorded a message "to be broadcast tonight."

It's hard to believe that 25 years ago, Quincy Jones and I embarked on an album named "Thriller." To be able to say that "Thriller" still holds the record as the biggest selling album of all time, is just mind blowing. I have you my fans through out the world to thank for this achievement.
Though this award tonight honors me for my lifetime achievements, there is still much more to come from Michael Jackson. My passion for music has never stopped. And for those who don't know, I've been in the studio recording Thriller 25th Anniversary album, with a lot of surprise guests. It's my hope that "Thriller" continues to live on for each new generation to discover.
