Jak Myślicie Czy Jest Jakaś Szansa Na Małe World Tour?
It epitomised New Labour hubris-a white elephant that the government insisted would work.
Now, eight years and £750m later, the Millennium Dome has become the world's biggest entertainment venue, eclipsing New York's Madison Square Garden with 2 million ticket sales since it opened last June.
Wembley and Earls Court barely get a look-in and, this year, The O2 bosses are already talking to Oasis, U2, Coldplay and, most controversially of all, Michael Jackson, to top a 2007 line-up including, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Prince, Spice Girls and Bruce Springsteen.
Jacko is talking of a 30-night residency that could net him more than £30m.
So who are the master-minds that turned this flop into such a flyer? The key player is Philip Anschutz, the man whose ranch had controversial visit from John Prescott when the US billionaire was lobbying for the Dome to be turned into a super casino. He failed to turn southeast London into a gambling haven, but he still spent £350m building a new venue under the Dome.
News corporation, owner of thelondonpaper, is also a minority backer of The 02.
"Anschutz is quite a contrarian investor. He's got amazing long-term vision," says David Campbell, chief executive of the European division of his AEG music events empire."He once invested in a venue in LA in a run-down district known for prostitutes." The Staples Centre is now one of the top venues in the city.
It is Campbell and The O2 boss Phil Beard, who looks after sports, who have pulled in the big names. They know all about love-bombing artists-visits from rockers to any of the 96 hospitality boxes is all part of the mission to seal future deals.
Another factor is the rise of touring and the demise of the album.
"Years ago tours were designed to promote albums. Now it's the other way round," observes Campbell.
Which is why Prince gave away his album-it helped to sell out his 21-night tour and net him £8m.
"We always thought it was going to happen [the venue becoming number one], but we couldn't have told you it was going to happen at lightning speed," says Campbell.

Raymone^^)
EMAIL:
Hello and thank you for the interest in our O2 Arena.
We have several big plans with the arena in the near future including more high quality food services, a new casino, and several other projects I am not able to give out at this time. Promotion for these projects have all ready been in order since they are all ready in works.
As far as your question regarding Michael Jackson, we have been in contact but nothing has been confirmed yet unfortunately. So at this time I’m not in a position to comment to be honest, but yes, it is something that is being discussed. I do not have much information as there is nothing concrete to comment on yet.
Keep in touch in recent future for any further notice. As we speak more to Michael Jackson I am not sure what I will or will not be able to give out as far as information. Mr. Jackson is interested on doing performances soon, from my understanding he's shopping around and I am not sure what will go through with us.

Leonard Cohen will be on Keith's river in July (can't wait to see the all-action giant video screen for that one), and U2, Coldplay and Oasis are all elbowing for residencies this year (Campbell: 'I can confirm some of those names you mention'). With anticipated career-reviving throws of the dice from Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson ('Yes, we are in talks. How does one talk to Michael Jackson? Through Michael Jackson's lawyers'), good times at the O2 will continue to roll, its success all the more remarkable given that it sprang from the loudest trumpeting white elephant of modern times. The former Millennium Dome was an £800m blunder that until 2007 was still costing the taxpayer £190,000 a year to maintain. 'For a marketing man there was no bigger challenge,' says Campbell, 46, as he takes me on a comprehensive tour of the O2's 20-acre site, 'than taking that large white elephant and trying to make it otherwise.'
But there's one more deal to strike. 'If it's the last thing I do,' says Randy Phillips, 'I'm going to get Michael Jackson on that stage.'

The O2 arena: No place like Dome
......
And what of rumours of a Michael Jackson residency?
"We're close but not there yet," says Mr Campbell.
